Salvation
Our Deepest Need
Our first goal as a church is to facilitate an introduction. We believe that every person born on this earth is born separated from God. Because of sin (anything we say, do, or think that falls short of God’s standards), we are lost and separated from God. But because God loves us, He wants to bring us back into a relationship with Him. In order to do that, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came to the earth to make a way. Jesus was born of a virgin in a miraculous birth, he lived a perfect sinless life, and then he was crucified on a Roman cross. He did all of this willingly in order to pay the price for our sin. We’re told in the Bible that the “wages of sin is death.” That is, the just punishment and payment for our sin is death. But when the innocent and perfect one died, he then provided a way for our sin to be placed on Him, so that we would not have to face that fate. With God’s justice satisfied, the way was opened for us to come back to Him. By grace, Jesus offered the merits of His sacrifice to us if we would only believe, that is place our trust and faith wholly in Him. John 3:16 summarizes the plan of salvation like this, “For God so loved the world (that is all of us), that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever (anyone) believes in Him will not perish (die), but have everlasting life.” While we will all eventually die in the flesh, this verse promises that we will be resurrected to new life, and spend it eternally with Jesus. All we need to do is recognize our condition as sinners separated from God, turn from what we are trusting in apart from Jesus (what the Bible calls repentance, a word that means “turn”), and putting our faith fully in what He has done to take care of our sin. The moment we do that, we enter into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, our eternity is secure, and we begin walking a new way in this life.
A great tool for understanding God’s plan of salvation is the “Roman’s Road,” which is a collection of verses taken from the book of Romans that describes God’s path to new life. If you would like to read more, simply click here.
